Oldies but Goodies

My favorite music (not me) is of the age that I find myself humming along in elevators. How is that even possible? I remember riding in an elevator as a young adult, frowning because of the tinny sounding Muzak that was being piped in. Now, I step out of my new “oldies time machine” smiling.

Every once in a while listening to the local Classic Rock station, I hear a song that I haven’t heard in a long time and then I search for more information—basically, I want to know who sang that song. This is a regular occurrence in my house. Sometimes when I hear a song from my childhood and find out who sang it; I think, “I don’t even know who that is!” Some are “one hit wonders”. Occasionally, I have also been shocked to find out that I have incorrectly credited popular bands for some of my favorite songs. I am having a hard time wrapping my mind around the idea that Classic Rock can also be classified as Golden Oldies.

This week’s blog will focus on some of the oldies but goodies available on the BloomingDaisiesCrafts website. Looking back to when the website was in its infancy, some of the earliest prints were Spring Tulips and Baby Jungle Animals that were and are available in Q-Snap bags and matching Grime Guards as well as the Dancing Penguins which is available in Q-Snap/WIP Project Bags.

  • The Spring Tulips with its bright colors and sunny yellow trim might appear to be best mentioned in spring, but the anticipation of tulips blooming starts much earlier—early fall when the bulbs are planted. The Rainbow Butterfly (B10-5) Needle Minder with its vibrant coloration is a beautiful addition to a WIP.

  • The adorable Baby Jungle Animals pattern is perfect for the animal lover in us all. Pair your Grime Guards with the wooden Needle Minders which include an elephant (B21-03), a zebra (B21-05) and a lion (B21-06). Those Needle Minders offer a bonus: use colored pencils to make your own unique design! Other sweet choices would be the Cute Girl Gray Elephant (B17-22) or Cute Hippopotamus/Hippo (B22-17)

  • One of my favorite Q-Snap/WIP Project Bag prints is the Dancing Penguins. As a precaution, this fabric is not offered as matching Grime Guards due to the surface glitter which could transfer to a WIP. Better safer, than sorry! Anyway, everything about this fabric is delightful! Dancing penguins wearing the cutest stocking caps, dancing in the glittery snow, with a beautiful blue background brings joy to a person’s heart. The Skating Penguin (B15-8), the Madagascar Penguins (B04-17) or Snowflake (B15-18) Needle Minder matches the winter theme of the fabric.

After the move and with the assistance of Grand Child #4, I have a grip on the BloomingDaisiesCrafts Needle Minders board. A few have been reduced to 5 or less in number; even less are at 1 or 2. Included on that list are Golden Oldie cartoon favorites--Thumper (the rabbit) is down to 2, Sylvester (the “puddy” cat) is at 5, and Winnie (the Pooh) is at a dangerously low 3. These are mentioned because while I keep looking for more of them, I have not seen them offered on my wholesalers’ websites.

Now for the “new arrivals” at BloomingDaisiesCrafts!

  • The Jack-o-Lantern Halloween Q-Snap/WIP Project bags are up on the website! These snaggle-toothed pumpkins are the brightest colors. (They are very reminiscent of some yummy candies—Search B22-2 for a product match!) In the light, there are some not so scary ghosts hidden in this patch of cute pumpkins. In the dark, they come out to play! That is correct, this fabric GLOWS IN THE DARK! Just for fun, I am making Trick or Treat bags for some grandchildren. I cannot wait to see their reactions!

  • And, OMG! The new Thanksgiving Turkey Needle Minder is so cute. His little sign instructs you to “Eat Pie”! Don’t mind if I do! You will want to display this magnet on your WIP, refrigerator, office filing cabinet, or anywhere that it sticks. BloomingDaisiesCrafts uses rare earth magnets that are small and strong.

As we creep closer and closer to Christmas, do not forget your own Christmas list. Next week, I cannot guarantee a new blog - I will be visiting my sister!!! While we talk most Monday-Fridays, we have not met up in person in 3 years. We cannot wait! It is long overdue. I do not know that anybody will be able to get a word in edgewise and I hope that they do not try! I have my stack of stuff to take to her and she has a baby quilt I mailed out to be quilted by her quilting guru. But that is another blog entry….
