Recently Blooming Daisies Crafts has received questions regarding scroll rods and Dust Covers so I thought that I would give my thoughts and hopefully answer some questions.
Scroll rods come in various configurations. There are those that are fixed: one width (rods) and length (side bars)-meaning that the work space available for your project remains the same. Others come with rods of different lengths. Some are adjustable for different sizes of fabric in length and width using both rods and spreaders of different lengths. I have a few of the last.
Because I have multi size scroll frames, I match it with the size of WIP fabric. Not too big, not too small, just right! It is the same with my scroll rod Grime Guards. As part of R&D for Blooming Daisies Crafts, the fit and finish of the Grime Guard product line allows me to have a bunch of scroll rods and Grime Guards in various sizes! One size does not fit all.
I will say the only thing I really abhor about some of the scroll rods is the use wing nuts for tightening the rods in place--not all manufacturers do this. Having scratched my arm when using the wing nuts, I HIGHLY recommend buying knobs to replace those - I would recommend these but it all depends on the bolt that will go thru it! The best part about buying from Amazon, if it doesn't work, send it back!
In doing research for a really nice set of scroll rods, I found this Edmunds HC-CS Handi-Clamp Complete Frame set on Amazon (and yes, I get a stipend if you choose to purchase it from this link). This set offers two 6” and 8” spreaders, and 3 size rods: 8”, 14” and 20”. It comes with the knobs and hand-clamps. These frames are not adjustable.
I also like the scroll rods with the just mentioned hand-clamps to hold your WIP in place. When I have used the hook and loop on my projects and attached them to the WIP with the taped part, I have had to cut that part off my finished project.
Blooming Daisies Crafts Dust Covers are sewn with the static scroll rods in mind—ones that do not adjust. Dust Covers are made with the customer supplied measurements to ensure that the Dust Covers fit correctly. Should you want the Dust Covers narrower than the scroll rods-perhaps to cover only the cloth of your WIP, give me those measurements. The Dust Covers are not width adjustable but the length of hook and loop used offers a measure of adjustability in case you use different spreaders. Remember that Blooming Daisies Crafts Dust Covers are meant to end at the spreaders to give your WIP a little more protection. The Dust Covers are not meant to cover the knobs on scroll rods.
When ordering a Blooming Daisies Crafts Dust Cover, decide the width you want to have. Traditionally, if the rod measurement is 18’ between the spreaders, that is the width you would order. However, if you want a 15” wide Dust Cover on an 18” scroll rod, just tell me 15”. Please note: - if you wish to order a matching or complementing set of Grime Guards, you would still need an 18” set for your scroll rod. This way the whole scroll rod is covered. Also, when Blooming Daisies Crafts list sizes for Dust Covers, the 16” is for a 16” scroll rod. Although it will fit an 18 or 20” scroll rod, it will not cover the entire offered work space but is fine if your WIP is 16" and you are using a larger scroll rod. Also, when giving me the length measurement, please state whether that is the true length or if you have added some to it. Standard dust covers listed on the site already made are approximately 25" long. If you measure the length amount like in the 2nd picture, I would recommend you asking for a 28" long dust cover.

Like so many products, Dust Covers have evolved because of customer input. The original Dust Cover line is made with heavier, decorator fabric that is dry clean recommended. Lately, people have requested that Blooming Daisies Crafts offer Dust Covers made with the 100% cotton fabric used for Grime Guards for easier care. Blooming Daisies Crafts has a prototype in the field but has not received any feedback at this time.
